The importance of fathers in the development of children and their ability to grow into happy, successful adults has throughout history been anecdotally demonstrated, but many new research studies are beginning to prove it scientifically. While much of the development of empathy in adolescents is biological there is a special role that fathers play in helping teens to not be overwhelmed as they begin to understand the perspectives of others. This article lays out nicely the challenge that exists for parents, but should also serve as a reminder to them that they are not failing.
